We are animal lovers! On top of having the horse (who had a baby) and the 2 cats, we also have 2 guinea pigs who also at one point had babies. We brought them home from the pet store, and they were already preggers. So at one point, we had a total of 8 guinea pigs. Those babies were so cute! They looked like little cotton balls. We tried to have fish but the were smelly and our cat Smokey decided he wanted them more than we did so he knocked over their bowl and well so much for owning fish. He actually did me a favor. I did not like the smell. But anyway, here are the gennies. I called them that.
This is C11's guinea pig, and her name is Emily. So cute!
This is A9's guinea pig, Danny. She likes to get all the attention.
Amazingly, these two little gennies have stayed alive and fairly healthy. They will both be 7 in December.
Hello, we are big guinea pigs lovers too!
ReplyDeleteYour piggies look very healthy and totally cute.
How did you deal with so many piggies?
At one point you must split males and females but males do fight (having females around).
We have two males that fight, so they live separately but have their playtime together (under a guarding eye of us).
Here is our Thomas:

Say 'hello' from our Thomas to your Emily and Danny....
Paula, as soon as the first guinea pig had her babies I separated them. The next day, the other had her babies. It was very strange. We let each family live together until they were 6 weeks old and then we gave them to the pet shop. When we told them (the pet shop) what had happened, they gave us loaner cages and supplies to take care of them all and they said they would take them at 6 weeks. So that is what we did. It worked out well. My kids have learned a lot about having babies with all the animal babies we have had around here.
ReplyDeleteI went over and took a look at Thomas. He is so cute!
ReplyDeleteI hope my daughter will (one day) have a couple guinea pigs that will have babies. They are so adorable. Indeed, kids learn a lot from taking care of moms and babies. The only hard part is saying bye to the babies. My daughter recently did take care of a baby bird for half a day and she had to cry saying goodbye. However, visiting a Bird Rescue Centre and letting go the bird was very educational. ReplyDeleteBye from Belgium, Paula & daughter
So sweet, we're big piggie fans here too. :)
