Sand dunes

We are still working on our Beyond Five in a Row title Sarah, Plain and Tall.  Today we learned about sand dunes.  We looked a many pictures of different types of sand dunes and how they are formed.  We did a hands on lessons from the manual and created our own sand dunes.

We are ready with our pans, magnifying glasses, a hair dryer which is not pictured here because it is bright pink and rather ugly, and our manual.

This is A9 carefully looking over the sand.  Did you know that glass was made from sand?

C11 used Jenga blocks as her windbreaker.  Off to the side, you can see small pieces of rocks.  C11 is very picky and wanted to pick out the rocks as they are "clearly" not sand.

This is A9's sand dune project.  She does not care a bit about rocks in her sand.  She used an assortment of things to create her windbreaker.
After we officially made our sand dunes and understood the concepts behind sand dunes and windbreakers, A9 made a sand/Jenga house.
This is my attempt at making a sand dune.  As you can see, I did not use the windbreakers or the hair dryer, I just formed it and made squiggly lines.
