New friends!!!

We were hanging around the other day outside like we usually do listening to music, riding skateboards, riding bikes, playing with the neighborhood kids when we realized, we were not alone.  We noticed more than 6 huge vultures just sitting on the fence, in the yard across the street, and on the rooftop of another house.  A12 rode her bike past them several times screaming and yelling before they decided to fly off.  She was literally 10 feet away from them and they just sat there looking at her.

We discovered that they were dinning on a squirrel that had been hit by a car in front of our house.  Poor guy!  He was laying on the road when we got home so I moved him so we did not have to look at it just dead and lying there.  We did not really want to see him be a meal for the vultures either but that is what happened.  I do not know a lot about vultures personally, except that they are not really all that cute, but these vultures seemed to have a system to eating and sharing this roadkill.

A little information about Turkey vulture, turkey buzzard, or just buzzard as these names are all interchangeable.  The Latin form of vulture is Cathartes aura which means "tearer."

Odd facts:
~a buzzard will often defecate on its own leg and then use the evaporation of the liquid to cool itself off. (urohidrosis)
~the buzzard has few natural predators, imagine that.
From Wiki

Waiting on their turn to eat.  The dead squirrel and the other vultures are just to the right of this fence that they are sitting on.
Going in for his share.
This is the look-out vulture.
He must have signaled the others that it was time to go and they all flew away.
