The Hobbit

Now that things are settling down a bit here, we are full steam ahead with our literary study of The Hobbit so I wanted to share a few resources that I have found.
The Hobbit.

Trivia challenge.  We use this book in a Jeopardy- type manner to make it more fun.

Activity books filled with games and character analysis.

Another awesome find filled with games and riddles.

An in depth art study of the illustrations in the book.

Love Spark Notes!  Spark notes condenses everything down into summaries, literary analysis, character studies, and an author biography.  Very helpful!

Book about archaeology.

Myth book.
We went back and reviewed a little archaeology with this study because we read that Hobbits were actually real at one time.  I had no idea!  According to the Smithsonian, research done in 2003 in a limestone cave on  the remote island off Indonesia called Flores, the bones of a young woman was found and dated back 18,000 years.  That is incredible!  They named the young woman Homo floresiensis and nicknamed her the Hobbit.  You have to just go to the Smithsonian website which I linked above if you are interested because it is a very interesting story.  Who knew?

We also added the element of myth to our study which is always a lot of fun to create and make up characters and stories.

BookRags.

Teaching resources.

eNotes.

We are almost done with the book, and we cannot wait to watch the movie and compare the two.
