Thermal energy-Apologia science physical science

Energy in our lives. Great site!
Thermal energy a.k.a. heat energy is a form of kinetic energy.  Kinetic energy means atoms and molecules are in constant motion.  Thermal energy breaks the bonds between molecules.

There are three types of thermal energy.  Conduction, convection, and radiation.  Thermal energy causes vaporization, condensation, and melting.

Conduction energy is when direct contact between two or more objects with a different temperature. The warm temperature gives energy to the cold temperature and this continues until the two temperatures are equal.  For example, you have a cup of hot coffee and you add cold liquid creamer to it.

Convection energy is when the process of transferring thermal energy through the movement of liquid or a gas.

Paper Masters-check this out for sure.
Radiation is when the process of heat transfer by radiant energy that goes through by way of electromagnetic waves.  Even though the sun is millions of kilometers away, the sun still controls the temperature of the earth.  This is radiation.

Of course, there is more to learn about thermal energy than we could possibly get to so check out the links for more.
