Out of the mouths of babes.

As a single parent raising two kids on my own, I often catch myself worrying about just about everything.

I do not make enough money on my own to have the luxury of just getting them everything they want anytime they want it.

That is just one of the negatives of being a single income family but I get up every day and I do what I have to so they at least have the basics, which quite frankly is a challenge as well.

I often feel a little sad when birthdays, holidays, and Christmas comes around and I do not have a wealth of gifts for them but I snap back into reality quickly because I know that I have single-handedly provided everything else for them.  The things that really matter.

I actually feel sick when certain other people that contribute nothing just up and spend hundreds of dollars for things that are not necessary and provide nothing that is necessary.  I just cannot wrap my brain around that concept.

I have a newly turned 16-year-old that I could not be more proud of.  Turns out, who is providing and who is not providing but just handing over gifts does not go unnoticed.  She actually taught me something and I am so grateful.  Just the fact that she came to me with this story means I am definitely doing a lot of things right!

She told me about The Widow's Offering, Mark 12:41, which is about a poor woman who gave all she had versus wealthy people who gave larger amounts.  Turns out that what the poor woman gave meant infinitely more than that of her wealthy counterparts.  I guess this just goes to show that kids really do get it.  They see all angles and form their own opinions.  This girl is such a blessing.

I take a lot of comfort knowing my kids cannot be bought.

The Widow’s Offering

41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.
43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”
