The Saturdays chapters 3 and 4

Topics of study for The Saturdays chapters 3 and 4

Chapter 3
~Snow
~rabies in animals-Latin word for rabies is rage
~orchestras
~another composer-Prokofiev (Peter and the Wolf)

Chapter 4
~static electricity
~employing new words
~listening to your conscience

This is a really good story.  We got lost in a story within the story in chapter 2.  One of the Characters, Mrs. Oliphant, was telling a story about her being kidnapped by gypsies when she was younger, and we were so involved with the story, we forgot that it was the retelling of a story and not the current storyline.

The Saturdays by Elizabeth Enright

We are working on The Saturdays by Elizabeth Enright.  Sadly, this is our last Beyond Five in a Row literature study but I guess all good things must come to an end (Chaucer).

Here is a summary of The Saturdays from  goodreads.

Meet the Melendys! Mona, the eldest, is thirteen. She has decided to become an actress and can recite poetry at the drop of a hat. Rush is twelve and a bit mischievous. Miranda is ten and a half. She loves dancing and painting pictures. Oliver is the youngest. At six, he is a calm and thoughtful person. They all live with their father, who is a writer, and Cuffy, their beloved housekeeper, who takes on the many roles of nurse, cook, substitute mother, grandmother, and aunt.

This book has a lot of new topics for us, as well as a few topics we may just review.  See you on Saturday!
Thanks for horsing around with me. You really never know what you will get when you read my blog so thanks for stopping by.
