Spoiler alert.....

The witches die......

I love Fall, even though we are still sweating because it is 90 degrees every day.  I also love Halloween probably more than any other holiday.  Along with my favorite holiday comes my favorite holiday which, of course, is Hocus Pocus.  I have probably seen Hocus Pocus a thousand times and never get sick of it.  Literally have it on in the background as I type this out and can literally quote word-for-word in the process.
Random BTS.

I did a little research on the movie and found out a few interesting things so just thought I would share.

Can you even believe this movie came out 26 years ago, what?

The movie was directed by Kenny Ortega who also was the director of Michael Jackson's, This Is It.

Bette and Kenny.

~A funny thing to note is what we call Hocus Pocus, in other countries it is called Abracadabra.

~The movie was almost called Halloween House.

~Hocus Pocus was not released around Halloween.

~Binx the cat was actually played by 9 different cats, 9 lives x 9 cats.  Apparently, each cat had a different skill set.

~When Billy Butcherson was awakened from the dead, and his mouth stitches were cut, real moths flew out of his mouth.  A device was created for the moths to sit in his mouth but not swallow them. Kinda cool, kinda gross!

~A small town in Ohio, Middletown, host a Hocus Pocus festival every October.

~The three little girls who discovered the witch brooms outside of a house while trick or treating were actually younger versions of the old Sanderson Sisters.

~David Kirschner created the story as a bedtime story for his children, and it spiraled into the movie we now have from there.

~Bette Midler says Hocus Pocus is her favorite film.

~Bette also apparently had two helpers following her around with dictionaries of old curse words, sounds like something she would do.

~The book for Hocus Pocus has a sequel
which came out in 2017.

~Did you know the part of Max was originally offered to Leonardo DiCarprio?? Yeah, but apparently he was filming What's Eating Gilbert Grape (never seen that before) and had to turn it down.

~For me, one of the more interesting discoveries is that of a Gloucester witch by the name of Esther Elwell is the 10 time great-grandmother of Sarah Jessica Parker who plays Sarah in the movie.  She was not killed during the witch trials because she escaped and then the witch trials ended, lucky her.

I accidentally discovered a short deleted scenes video on YouTube, click here to watch that.

The quotes in this movie are also some of the best quotes ever!!

If you have not seen this Halloween movie, you must!  Age does not matter to this timeless classic.  I have heard Disney is planning on a reboot like many other classics have done but I wish they would not even bother because there will never be another Hocus Pocus, and I will definitely not be watching because it will probably be "a bunch of Hocus Pocus."

Are your kids a reflection of your parenting abilities.....

I read an article in a psychology journal which got me thinking.

Eye color, hair color, left-handedness, drug addiction, dimples, mental disorders, and color blindness are all things you can inherit from your parents but you can also inherit their cycles of dysfunction as well.

So lets say if a child suffers abuse as a child, they are likely to be abusive to their children as well or other children.

What other situations do parents pass down that are repeated by their children? Infidelity, enabling, and abandonment just to name a few.

Picture this, suppose your father had two kids at some point in time.  He decides that is not the life he wants and dumps those kids and goes off to be with someone else and has additional kids completely neglecting the two kids he already has.  That is a disgusting cycle that can repeat itself.

Or what if your mother's mother enabled one of your siblings so much so that said sibling lived with their mom their entire life and now you also have adult children living with you because, again, the cycle is being repeated.

If you act like a bully, your child might too.  If you are violent, your child could be violent too.

When you are a parent, you have to realize that your kids are watching what you do and will likely repeat behaviors especially from the same sex parent.  It is unfortunate for some kids but there is not much you can do about it except ask yourself if you would want your child to be like you and go from there.

“Instead of treating your child like how you were treated. Treat them with the same love and attention you wanted from your parents while growing up." -- Jonathan Anthony Burkett
Thanks for horsing around with me. You really never know what you will get when you read my blog so thanks for stopping by.
