Creepy Corvin Castle...

Anytime I stumble upon stories of Vlad the Impaler (aka Vlad Dracula III, aka the real-life inspiration for Dracula), I get pulled so here is a brief summary of this awesome place.
Side note: Dracul means dragon.
Built in the early 14th century, with 42 chambers, 2 drawbridges, buttresses, inner courtyards, balconies, and turrets, the Corvin Castle (Castelul Corvinilor formally known as (Hunedoara Fortress) is a Gothic/Renaissance masterpiece!  It is said to be the most beautiful, well-preserved medieval castle in Transylvania.

It is also allegedly where Vlad, the head-impaling monster, was imprisoned for 7 years.  It is believed his time in the dungeon caused him to go insane (because clearly he was not insane before that point).  Vlad was not the only prisoner the castle was home to.

Legend has it that three Turkish men were captured and sent to the dungeon to dig a well.  They were promised that once they found water, they would be rewarded and set free.

At about 30 meters down and an astonishing 15 years later, they were successful in striking water; however, they ended up being decapitated by their captors.  What a stink! They left a message on a wall which read "You now have water, but you don't have a heart."

Another victim of the castle was a monk who was sealed in a wall of the Capistrano Tower for spying on the nobles.  He was alive by the way when they sealed him in.  People have reported seeing his ghost wandering in the tower.

Many other people had the misfortune of finding themselves in the Corvin Castle where they were tossed into the bear pit, tortured, executed, or left in the dungeon to die.

These tortured souls still haunt the castle today and many believe the real-life Dracula himself haunts the massive fortress as well which is something I would definitely be down for seeing myself if I ever make it to Romania.

You can get more details here.

And one last note. The castle is also a very popular location for filming movies, documentaries, and shows about paranormal activity including the 2018 hit The Nun which I will now have to watch.

It makes your 12-year-old little heart so happy when....

you get to be on set with the character from your favorite book (and movie) growing up and the scene is a freak show.  Does not get much better than that.

Spoiler alert.....

The witches die......

I love Fall, even though we are still sweating because it is 90 degrees every day.  I also love Halloween probably more than any other holiday.  Along with my favorite holiday comes my favorite holiday which, of course, is Hocus Pocus.  I have probably seen Hocus Pocus a thousand times and never get sick of it.  Literally have it on in the background as I type this out and can literally quote word-for-word in the process.
Random BTS.

I did a little research on the movie and found out a few interesting things so just thought I would share.

Can you even believe this movie came out 26 years ago, what?

The movie was directed by Kenny Ortega who also was the director of Michael Jackson's, This Is It.

Bette and Kenny.

~A funny thing to note is what we call Hocus Pocus, in other countries it is called Abracadabra.

~The movie was almost called Halloween House.

~Hocus Pocus was not released around Halloween.

~Binx the cat was actually played by 9 different cats, 9 lives x 9 cats.  Apparently, each cat had a different skill set.

~When Billy Butcherson was awakened from the dead, and his mouth stitches were cut, real moths flew out of his mouth.  A device was created for the moths to sit in his mouth but not swallow them. Kinda cool, kinda gross!

~A small town in Ohio, Middletown, host a Hocus Pocus festival every October.

~The three little girls who discovered the witch brooms outside of a house while trick or treating were actually younger versions of the old Sanderson Sisters.

~David Kirschner created the story as a bedtime story for his children, and it spiraled into the movie we now have from there.

~Bette Midler says Hocus Pocus is her favorite film.

~Bette also apparently had two helpers following her around with dictionaries of old curse words, sounds like something she would do.

~The book for Hocus Pocus has a sequel
which came out in 2017.

~Did you know the part of Max was originally offered to Leonardo DiCarprio?? Yeah, but apparently he was filming What's Eating Gilbert Grape (never seen that before) and had to turn it down.

~For me, one of the more interesting discoveries is that of a Gloucester witch by the name of Esther Elwell is the 10 time great-grandmother of Sarah Jessica Parker who plays Sarah in the movie.  She was not killed during the witch trials because she escaped and then the witch trials ended, lucky her.

I accidentally discovered a short deleted scenes video on YouTube, click here to watch that.

The quotes in this movie are also some of the best quotes ever!!

If you have not seen this Halloween movie, you must!  Age does not matter to this timeless classic.  I have heard Disney is planning on a reboot like many other classics have done but I wish they would not even bother because there will never be another Hocus Pocus, and I will definitely not be watching because it will probably be "a bunch of Hocus Pocus."

Dinner and a movie Thursday.....

It is so much fun going to movies that the girls have been in.  They spend so much time on set.  Sometimes they are featured more than others but in the end, it is still very exciting.  They always come home with behind the scene stories.  Plus it is also fun to see their names on the movie's IMDb page.  Tonight was the early premier of The Darkest Minds.  We had a blast looking for them to appear in different scenes of the movie tonight.  A trailer for another movie came on before The Darkest Minds which they were in as well called The Hate U Give.  It looks very intense.  See you at the movies.........

While we were watching The Originals tonight.......

a trailer for The Darkest Minds movie came on.  Whoo hoo!  Both the girls spent a LOT of time on this movie set which was film at Stone Mountain and a closed former military base in GA.  Cannot wait to see it.

There will be a special early screening in California in a few weeks.  Find that info here.

Love, Simon......

is just a fantastic movie.  I decided to keep this movie review short because this movie will stand the test of time.  It has something for everyone.  Both of the girls were in the film and even though they do not appear much in the finished project (which happens even to the biggest stars), it is absolutely fabulous.  It is a dramaty of sorts, funny and dramatic.  If you don't leave this movie feeling happy, sad, energetic, and have to pee, go to your doctor immediately as there may be something wrong with your brain.  You will have to pee because you will not want to miss a single moment of this unconventionally surprising theatrical masterpiece.  It is just that good!  We have seen it three times and loved it more each time.

Thanks for horsing around with me. You really never know what you will get when you read my blog so thanks for stopping by.
