Ancient Roman dessert.

Today as a fine arts project, we made stuffed dates the Ancient Roman way.  Using our Evan-Moor Ancient Rome History Pocket recipe book.  It is very simple to make and very delicious!

The recipe calls for pitted dates, 1 cup of pine nuts (we used slivered almonds because a small bag of pine nuts was almost $5), and honey.
This is the recipe card.

Pitted dates.

Our slivered almonds.  They are delicious.

Honey.

We just put our ingredients on a plate.  You have to stuff the dates with the nuts.

Heat a cup of honey.

Add the stuffed dates to the heated honey.
Eat!  Caution, these are VERY sweet.
My kids liked these a lot until I said the dates looked like cockroaches.  They gave the recipe an 8/10 for deliciousness.
Delicious but sweet!
