Since we struck out looking for vegan, edible cookie dough in LA..........

I am so glad we found it here in Georgia.  Sweet Loren's is seriously delicious!!!  You can also cook this if you want but raw cookie dough is something to behold!!!!

Home security

We feel so safe with our home monitoring sign and our 20 pound overweight outdoor cat.  It is like Fort Knox over here.

Snow!

We have been out in the snow almost all day long!  Time for hot showers, hot chocolate, and a great movie!

I love the snow flakes falling in the background.

This makes me really glad we do not have more snow in GA.  What a mess!

New kids on the block

Check out this gorgeous little kitten.  We discovered him and another kitten that looks just like him a few weeks ago hanging out with Cookie Butt.  We think they are related as in we believe that the baby daddy is Cookie Butt's brother, Skinny Black.  These kittens look just like Skinny Black.  We have not been able to get close enough to see if they are male or female but this little one is beginning to trust us and does not run off as fast as his sibling does.  My kiddos love the challenge of taming stray cats, and they are getting really good at it.  I guess they will both be named pretty soon.

How fun, a few black cats just in time for Halloween.

Pumpkins, pumpkins, pumpkins, and a Cookie

We brought home a few pumpkins from the pumpkin patch today and Cookie had to check things out.
She usually sleeps where these pumpkins are sitting so we may have to move them over a little.  She does not look too thrilled to be sharing that spot on her porch with pumpkins.
And it only took her about 3 minutes to knock this little pumpkin down to the bottom of the steps.  I guess tomorrow we will implement a pumpkin relocation plan unless she knocks them all down before that.

Cookie is taking a dirt nap to keep cool!

It has been really hot this week.  I found Cookie Butt taking a dirt nap in this patch of dirt down by the basement door.  Silly girl, I left the basement door open for her to go in to stay cooler but I guess she just preferred the dirt.

Gem and rock dig-Smithsonian

Periodically, I like to review topics that we have already studied just to make sure at least some of it has been retained.  I do not make it a full-blown lesson, just a fun review.  I usually like to turn it into a hands on activity so it will be more fun.

So this week, we were reviewing geology-rocks-gems......

I picked up these kits last year at the homeschool convention.  They are awesome and easy to work with.  We headed outside to start chipping away at the plaster of Paris brick that held promises of at least 11 awesome rocks and gems.

I think this was less than $10.

The kit includes the plaster of Paris brick, safety goggles, a magnifying glass, a paint brush, a little hammer, a wooden stake, and a  hardness testing plate.  There is also a poster with various types of rocks and gems so you can try to determine what treasures you have uncovered.

The fun begins.

Once you start chipping away at the brick, you start to see the gems.

Cookie decided she wanted to partake in this project with us so she has her safety goggles on, and she is waiting anxiously for her turn or maybe she is just annoyed that we put the goggles on her and laughed hysterically.  Either way, what a cutie pie!

These are the treasures that C found.  Look at how nicely they are all lined up.

These are the treasures that A found, she is more of a just put it anywhere kinda girl as you can see.
We had fun testing the hardness of the rocks and gems and determining what they were.  They even remembered a lot about how rocks are formed and the types, igneous, sedimentary, metamorphic, etc.

Here is an awesome website to visit if you want to learn more.

A happy ending.

As most of you know, a stray cat that was born in our yard decided that she would have a litter of her own in this very same yard.  I guess we just have that kind of yard.  We felt like they would certainly not make it being outside in this heat so we decided to move them into our basement.  Fast forward to 7 1/2 weeks later.  Today, all 3 of these kittens got a home.  Two went together and the other one went to a relative of the people that took the other two.  So needless to say, we are SUPER HAPPY!

A few reminder photos of how cute they are.

Love her!
Love him!
Love him too!
Here is momma with her kittens.  She actually seems relieved that they are not here anymore.  She is just relaxing and hanging out.  She does deserve a break.  She did a great job with her first litter.  We will be taking her to get fixed.  I am not sure I could handle another 8 weeks of kitten duty and neither could she.

Have a great life kittens!
Thanks for horsing around with me. You really never know what you will get when you read my blog so thanks for stopping by.
